LIFE IS LIKE A....

GHANA

Ghana is my happy place. Those 3 months were the happiest of my life.
Spoke to Mama Grace last night. She has malaria & had just come home from the hospital. "I miss you people, its been long time." I told her I would call again in a few days to check up on her (and I will now). Can't believe its almost a year since we left. I'm sure I avoid calling because I feel guilty that I have come back to Australia and so easily slipped into life, forgetting what I have seen & learnt. Can't even bring myself to make photo albums. It feels wrong to put photos of the children at Nymeke orphanage into an album. What right do I have? They aren't just beautiful pictures of beautiful children...they are the same children who I am no longer helping. Or what about those kids at Wli orphange (above)? I wonder how they are going...
I want to quit uni, pack my bags and go and live there for years. Eat jollof & rice balls every day. Shave my head again, quit wearing makeup, clap hands with street kids. Dance with strangers. Use a bucket to shower. Recognise how precious the little things are. Watch Abi swim in the ocean for the very first time at age 18.

SWEET SOUNDS

Loving Lisa Mitchell so much at the moment. I'm still kicking myself I didn't go and see her at the Brass Monkey when she was there, for $13!!. This clip is so cute.

Seriously fighting back the urge to go spend hundreds of dollars on CD's. Just not a fan of downloading albums. Can't bring myself to do it.

The Temper Trap is also on high rotation.

This song made me spontaneously burst into tears during early stages of break up. Not sure why, I even looked up lyrics and I don't understand what its about haha. Now my heart is mended I listen to it all the time.

FOUND

Found love letters, poetry on napkins, photos, shopping lists. See here for more.

WARNING: You can get lost in this site and realise 2 hours of your day has just been passed

POST SECRET

A world wide project that also always makes me smile. And laugh. And gasp. And sometimes cry. See here

But mostly it just makes me feel normal and assured that there are other people out there who think the same thoughts. After all,
people are just people, like you.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL

A world wide project that always makes me smile. See here for more photos.

Continue the message. Arm yourself with a permanent marker and start making hopeful graffiti on the back of toilet doors.

Sure beats "Jodie is a slut".

NANNY

Nanny's make the world a better place

NATURE

I see skies of blue..... clouds of white
Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world

MR BIRD'S ADVENTURES

Mr Bird's Adventures is included on my list of loves. For anyone who wants to get lost in whimsical absurdity for a few minutes (or hours). So cute.

EYES WIDE OPEN

The idea of studying 'political economy' at first made me want to fall asleep but having given it some time I am beginning to appreciate what an eye opener the subject might prove to be. My whole life I have tried to ignore politics, feigning disinterest when really it boiled down to lack of understanding. Today I learnt the concept of "disaster capitalism" - whereby corporations and private enterprises wait for natural disasters, wars or conflict, swoop in while the population is in shock and gain massive profit. An example is after the 2004 tsunami where an entire coastline of Sri Lanka was destroyed. Companies took advantage of this, building resorts and cutting off thousands of fishermen, their ability to rebuild their villages, their livelihood & income. The Sri Lankan government claiming "Nature has presented Sri Lanka with a unique opportunity and out of this great tradegy will come a world class tourism destination."

Pretty sick stuff.

Political economy is also teaching me to become more mindful of where products come from, how they are made, who is involved and what conditions people work under.
Chocolate isn't so sweet when you begin to realise that child labour is involved in the harvesting of cocoa beans.

JUMPING

THELMA & LOUISE

This is KELEI.
She will probably feature a lot because she features a lot in my life. Our world wide adventures include;
  • Singing Thai karaoke in an underground bar in Bangkok
  • Praying for our lives on an overloaded canoe on the Volta River
  • Scoffing down Roti's in Durban
  • Dancing on tables in a tiny club in Ghana

Kelei sings. She sounds like dreams & bubbles and a summers day.

LOVES

I'm just a girl who appreciates pretty things in life. I'm not an expert on anything, rather a lover of all things, big & small. I have wonderful friends who make my world go round. This is a safe space to share beautiful finds -whether it be art, photography, music, fashion, thoughts or ideas.

To get to know me a little better here is a list of things I enjoy.
  • Making lists

  • The smell of coffee (as opposed to the taste)

  • Brett Whiteley nudes

  • My nephew Buggalug

  • Africa

  • My scruffy dog

  • Mr Bird's Adventures
Enjoy.
